Platinum Jubilee Village Events

Join in Sunday’s final day of Ruddington events to celebrate Her Majesty’s record breaking reign – taking place at various village venues.

To mark the The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, our village has been decorated with red, white and blue flowers, ribbons, flags and yarn bombing displays. There’s even amazing new graffiti artwork to go and see on Sellors’ Playing Field (below).

Also there’s ‘Life in Ruddington’ at the library, created in partnership by Ruddington Museum & Ruddington History Society, and the history of the Ruddington WI inside the Framework Knitters’ Museum (FWKM).

TODAY a ‘Memory Tree’ will be set up on The Green – and there’s a ‘Classic Car Gathering’ at Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre from 10am to 4.00pm.

Weather permitting, a final official Ruddington Street party is taking place this Sunday along Barton Close.

Unfortunately, most other planned Jubilee events today have been moved indoors to St Peter’s Church due to the weather forecast of heavy rain and potential thunderstorms. That’s where you are now welcome to go along to the ‘Big Community Picnic‘ and take family and friends. Be sure to watch out for the unique ‘Jubilee Banner’, newly created by textile artist Marie Jones as part of the Diamond Village Project at the Framework Knitters’ Museum.

Some Sunday 5th June Platinum Jubilee highlights:

  • At 10am a Sunday Service in St. Peter’s Church
  • 12-noon onwards Bring Your Own Community Picnic into the church. There will be children’s games, activities and entertainment, tombola, refreshments and live music from the Nottingham Concert Band and PRS Jazz Trio
  • 4.30pm Children’s Cinema in St Peter’s Church – the Puppet Show will precede this!
  • See the history of the Ruddington WI group in the Framework Knitters’ Museum
  • Ruddington Jubilee Banner – commissioned by the FWKM. Please note that, due to the poor weather forecast, the banner procession will now move indoors to St. Peter’s Church. You are invited to join in at 11:30am to see banner process through the church accompanied by song, witness the Ruddington Diamonds revealed by The Presser, followed by the banner being blessed by the Vicar: welcoming this beautiful artwork into the community of Ruddington, creating a unique ceremony never to be repeated.
